Fall Food and Kitchen Deals

There’s a tradition in my family that started a few years ago that still somewhat confuses me.

Some out-of-town relatives decided that Halloween was the ideal time to come for a visit, so no matter what day the holiday falls on, we can be sure that we’ll have company.

Don’t get me wrong; we love our family visitors, but Halloween never really seemed like a family-gathering occasion to me. Now it has grown to include not only our out of town guests, but a few family friends as well.

I love planning a get together, but when that get together falls on a work night and school night, things get a bit tricky. Especially when a meal is involved. (Something tells me my boss wouldn’t appreciate it if I left early that day to go make dinner and get the goodies ready for the kids.)

Last year I stumbled across a really fun Halloween recipe for stuffed peppers carved to look like jack-o-lanterns. They were a huge hit, but this year I needed to find something a bit less complicated (and with my basic cooking skills, I’m looking for REALLY simple, folks!) and I think I’m in luck!

This year for the Random Family Halloween gathering, I’ll be making a big batch of Pumpkin Turkey Chili!

Wait! Come back here!

I know it sounds weird, but the recipe promises to take only 30 minutes, and I can even chop up some of the ingredients the night before, so hopefully I can trim that time frame down even more.

But here’s the kicker: My kitchen is woefully stocked and I have even had friends come over and bring their own knives and cutting boards because they know they’ll never find what they need at our place.

But where I lack in kitchen prowess, I excel in online shopping skillz! (Yes, I meant to spell that with a ‘Z’! My skills are just THAT amazing!)

I have to give KickItBack much of that credit, though. Sure, there are a ton of people out there who shop at Macys.com, Walmart.com and Target.com, but not all of them are doing it while earning cash back on their purchases.

I am on the hunt for a nice large skillet. Not the most exciting thing to purchase online, but if I can score a good deal and avoid driving around town (while paying over $4.00 a gallon in gas) then I’m IN!

Macy’s.com

While my cooking skills may be meager, I still know the value of a good brand. Macy’s is currently having a promotion where all non-stick Calphalon cookware is 20% off until 10/27.
Macy's | KickItBack |Cash back shoppingCheck out this little beauty: The Calaphon Contemporary Nonstick Bronze Covered 5 Qt. Saute Pan, now on sale for $99.99 until Oct. 20.

Stay cool handle? Check!
Oven safe up to 450 degrees? Double check!

Wait a minute. Is a ‘saute pan’ the same thing as a ‘large skillet’? Shoot…I’m already feeling out of my element, but I still think this pretty bronze baby would be a HUGE upgrade to my kitchen paraphernalia.

When I shop at Macys.com with KickItBack, I can also earn 1.5% cash back on my purchase. Now that’s a PAN-tastic deal! (Pan-puns = Awesome.)

Target.com

Target features the Kitchen Essentials by Calaphon brand and had lots of pans that qualify for free shipping if your purchase is $50 or more.

Target | KickItBack | Cash back shoppingI like the 12’’ nonstick jumbo frying pan for $49.99, even though I’ll still need to add something else to my cart to qualify for that free shipping. Tricky, tricky, Target. But I forgive you. I’m sure my kitchen could use a new spatula or two while I’m on my mission to beef up my kitchen.

Plus, since I’m earning 1.5% cash back when I shop with KickItBack, online shopping just puts me in a spectacular mood.

Speaking of spectacular, did you know they make such a thing as a personal pie maker?

Target | KickItBack | Cash back shoppingThe Bella Four Slice Pie Maker comes in a cheery shade of red and can knock out four mini pies in one electronic miracle baking session!

It’s available at Target for $27.99 and I think it may be just what I need to impress those out-of-town Halloween guests!

Sure, pumpkin turkey chili may sound strange, but there’s got to be some bonus points I could earn for personal apple pies served up for dessert, right?

Happy autumn, everyone!

Have a Spooktacular Halloween!

The big night is finally here! Well, sort of. Halloween is technically on Monday, but seeing as how most people have work or school on Mondays, we’re going to assume you’ll be celebrating tonight. We’re also going to assume that you’ve picked out your costume by now; after all, it’s not like we’ve tried to help you chose your costume here, here, and here! In the spirit of Halloween celebrations, we’re going to bring you our spookiest blog yet!

Nightmares Fear Factory

Maybe you’ve heard of the place; maybe you haven’t. Chances are, once you read this you’re going to wish you hadn’t. It’s quite honestly the scariest place in North America. Located in Niagara Falls, Canada, Nightmares Fear Factory is housed on the site of the once-prosperous Cataract Coffin Factory.

Watch the video below for the full story, but be warned: It’s not for the faint of heart!

Pretty spooky, eh? You’re not alone if that’s a bit too much for you; over 100,000 people have chickened out before even stepping foot inside! Don’t believe us? Check out the counter on the Nightmares Fear Factory Web site!

If the counter isn’t convincing enough for you, check out the Nightmares Fear Factory Flickr stream. They NFF team set up a DSLR in one of the scariest parts of the tour, then set it up to snap a shot at just the right moment, catching many unsuspecting thrill-seekers in very inopportune and unfortunate (for them, at least) poses!

Check out some of our favorites below:

If that doesn’t provide some much-needed comic relief, check out some hilarious Photoshopped images from the stream below!

There you have it, folks. Go forth into the night, and remember to be safe out there…no telling what may be lurking in the shadows.

Have a spooktacular Halloween!

Remember, special KickBack rates at all of our Halloween Costume Retailers are still running until October 31st, so take advantage quick! Also, follow us on Facebook and Twitter for daily deals and updates!

Marty McFly’s Nike Air MAG Shoes: The Future is Here!

Late Wednesday, Nike released the teaser of all teasers: A frustratingly short video called McFly’s Closet, that features shelves upon shelves full of Nike Air MAGs.

Yup, those Nike Air MAGs — the ones Marty McFly rocked in Back To The Future II!

It goes without saying, but nerds (point your fingers this way, folks) have been coveting these bad boys for years now. So are we to believe that Nike is finally ready to unleash the Air MAGs?

Well, not just yet. Nike revealed that 1,500 pairs will be auctioned off on eBay, with all proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. In addition, Google co-founder Sergey Brin and his wife, Anne Wojcicki have pledged to match the bids up to $50 million. If you’re interested, the bidding started on Thursday night and will run through September 18! So break out the plastic; it’s for a good cause!

Now, if the McFly’s Closet video doesn’t exactly satisfy your hunger, Nike has released a cinema-quality commercial called Back For The Future:

Here’s a little bit about the shoe via NikeKicks.com:

The Air Mag is the first rechargeable footwear from Nike and were designed as an identical replica to the originals seen in the Back to the Future II movie. Some of the constant elements include the upper contours, the glowing LED panel and the electroluminescent Nike logo in the strap. The Nike Air Mag actually illuminates with the pinch of the “ear” of the high top, glowing for five hours per charge.

Only a few questions remain:

  1. Where are our self-adjusting “resizing” jackets?
  2. Where are our flying cars?
  3. And most importantly, where are our Hover Boards?
  4. Oh yeah, and when will the Chicago Cubs really win the World Series?

So while we’re still waiting for the day when we can jump on our Hover Boards and head down to the local mall to pick up our Air MAGs, we can still get laced up in some fresh shoes from any of the fine shoe retailers at KickItBack!
